COP News

The Kenya Platform for Climate Governance (KPCG), in partnership with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), Haki Jamii and Transparency International Kenya, convened the Kenya Climate Leadership Conference 2026 to strengthen Kenya’s collective climate leadership and shape the country’s priorities ahead of the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) in Antalya, Türkiye.

The conference brought together stakeholders to reflect on progress and outstanding issues emerging from COP30, identify Kenya’s priority climate issues for COP31, and strengthen structured dialogue between government, climate negotiators and non-state actors.

Discussions focused on bridging the gap between international climate negotiations and domestic implementation by identifying practical actions, investment opportunities and strategic partnerships to accelerate climate action in Kenya.

Key Expected Outcomes

🔹 Development of a concise Kenya Climate Leadership Conference COP31 Priorities and Action Agenda, outlining areas of convergence, key negotiating priorities and domestic implementation actions.

🔹 Strengthened collaboration between government, negotiators and non-state actors to ensure that stakeholder perspectives and implementation experiences inform Kenya’s climate diplomacy.

🔹 Exploration of a coordination mechanism for non-state actors to facilitate information sharing, harmonise inputs and sustain engagement on the road to COP31.

🔹 Identification of strategic partnerships and investment opportunities to support climate action before and after COP31.

The conference reaffirmed the importance of inclusive, coordinated and action-oriented climate leadership in ensuring that Kenya’s international climate commitments translate into meaningful outcomes for communities and the country’s sustainable development.

As Kenya prepares for COP31, continued collaboration between government and non-state actors will be essential in advancing shared priorities, strengthening accountability and accelerating climate action.
